A decent session for Sri Lanka although they might rue dropping Virat Kohli – early on in his innings. It was a perfect start for the hosts after Mathews asked India to bat first. KL Rahul was sent packing in the first over – completely misjudging an incoming delivery from Dhammika. Ajinkya Rahane looked very positive – two straight boundaries showing his class. But on this pitch, all it requires is one small mistake from the batsman, and as it happened, Rahane fell over attempting an off-drive off Nuwan Pradeep and was caught plumb in front. Kohli started confidently enough but has looked edgy, especially after being reprieved by the keeper. On the other hand, Cheteshwar Pujara looks solid – despite playing his first Test after a long gap of eight months. The duo have added 36 runs so far and the team will hope that this pair takes them out of choppy waters, once play resumes.
